Asset Maintenance Contact us:

SAP EAM Work Order is an asset management/customer service solution based on the co-innovation architecture from SAP and Sybase. It connects to SAP PM and CS and enables the user to perform the most important business processes offline on his mobile device without a network connection.

SAP EAM Work Order currently supports Windows Tablets/Laptops. Support for other device platforms will follow.

Functionality of SAP EAM Work Order

Work and Service Order Management

Workers can view, edit and create orders on the mobile device and report working time and material consumption back to SAP. Next to the current orders, historical order data can be downloaded, that is related to technical objects. Distribution rules defined in the middleware makes sure that users only receive the orders relevant to them.

Notification Management

The user has access to notifications, which increases the amount of available information for him and therefore improves his ability to troubleshoot and fix equipment’s. Notifications are available on the mobile device with their activities, tasks, items and causes. ?SAP EAM Work Order also enables users to report new issues by creating notifications and related a items and tasks.

Technical Object Management

SAP EAM Work Order allows downloading technical objects like functional locations and equipment’s. In SAP EAM Work Order you can view technical objects together with their characteristics and the notification history - either in list or tree view.

Inventory Management

SAP EAM Work Order lets technicians track and manage their inventory without any overhead. When they book material consumptions on orders, the inventory count is updated automatically. This allows an accurate tracking of the inventory.

Business Partner Management

With SAP EAM Work Order the field employee always has access to up-to-date customer records. The application allows them to view the customers in list form or on a map. It is also possible to display the partner list for a master record and view customer details beyond address and location.

SAP EAM Work Order can be used for multiple use cases like customer service, inspection, asset management and audits.

Usability

One of the keys to success of any mobile software is usability. A mobile implementation can only be successful if the end users are 100% satisfied with the mobile solution. SUP allows developers to create native applications, which look and behave like the target device. Only because of this it was possible to implement the type of usability that SAP EAM Work Order offers.

Backend Integration

Mobile Asset Management (MAM) from SAP was based on NetWeaver Mobile 7.0, which in parts was completely different then NetWeaver Mobile 7.1, but in other parts very similar. Both middleware systems get their data from SAP via remote enabled function modules, so called BAPI Wrappers. Unfortunately the BAPI Wrappers from MAM were optimized for 7.0 and do not work well together with 7.1. Therefore it was necessary to create a new set of BAPI Wrapper for SAP EAM Work Order. Internally they re- use the BAPI Wrappers, the BADIs and the customizing from MAM, which ensures an easy migration from MAM to SAP EAM Work Order.

Datamodel

Within the co-innovation architecture data is stored in so called Data Objects. These Data Objects are corresponding to the BAPI Wrappers in the SAP back end system. SAP EAM Work Order is using the following Data Objects to send data to the mobile client. Data Objects can have child objects. The Order Data Object for example has the child objects Operations, Components, Technical Objects, Partners, Time Confirmations and Material Confirmations.

Data Distribution

NetWeaver Mobile 7.1 allows the creation of distribution rules. These rules decide which data goes to which mobile device. The goal of distribution rules is to only send only the absolutely necessary data to each device. It is also possible to define dependencies between Data Objects. Examples for distribution rules and dependencies used in SAP EAM Work Order are:
  • Download only orders that are assigned to the device user.
  • Download only orders that are assigned to the work center of the device user.
  • Download only those equipment’s that have a dependency to an order or notification.

Mobile Client

The Mobile Clients of SAP EAM Work Order are developed in the native language of the target device. This ensures a native look and feel, the behavior of the mobile platform and a good performance. The following technologies are used:

Windows Tablet/Laptop: The Windows version is running on Windows XP, Vista and 7 in both 32 and 64bit. It was developed via Visual Studio with C# and WPF. It is using the Sybase SDK for Windows.
